"Tuck and Pull Up"

by Klarissa Sue Isaak

This school year East High started off with a forceful dress code policy. However, students are having a rough time following it. Shirts must be worn at or above wrist length.

Many students are against the new "hoodie rule." Students are not permitted to where a shirt with a hood or any type of hoodie unless it has the East logo on it. Belts must be worn if pants do not stay at the waistline. Pants that are tight-fitting, oversized, drooping, and garments that expose more than mid-thigh are not allowed to be worn.

Freshmen Josh Robinson and Leon Scurry are out of dress code in the left photo. Long shirts must be tucked in and pants pulled up as shown on the right.

Lastly, shoes must be secure on feet. Flip-flops, stilettos (shoes with heels higher than three inches), slippers, and shower shoes aren't allowed. In order to reinforce the dress code, the consequences for breaking it are:

  • 1st and 2nd offence - Send home
  • 3rd and 4th offence - One day of ISS
  • 5th offence and beyond - Three days Out of School Suspension

Ms. Davis said, "The dress code should be enforced and followed, because when you get into the real world, you can't droop and be sloppy, especially if you want a job." Her new catch phrase is, "tuck and pull up," and she can be heard saying this to students at all times of the day.

School Lunch Prices Too High?

by Chaney Smith

This year, school lunches are $2.25, compared to last year when they were just $1.75. Senior Morgan Key said that, "The lunch prices are too high compared to previous years."

Seniors (L, R above) Morgan Key, Tiara Foster, and Jazella Jeffries choose not to eat lunch due to the increase in price.

Sophomore, My'Aire Whitlock said, "I refuse to eat because lunch prices are too high."

Kitchen Manager Mrs. Curtis said, "The lunches are healthy. Child Nutrition tried to make the menu better so the students enjoy the food more. They did this by having pizza and chicken served weekly."

Student Katia Redding said, "The prices are outrageous," and she doesn't think the lunches are worth the price.

One reason the school's lunches went up is because of rising gas prices — the school is getting charged more for delivery. "We realize that prices keep going up, but where else can you buy a complete, healthy meal for $2.25," said Curtis.

One Last Letter

by Robert Shropshire

If I could have written you one last letter before you left, I'd tell you not to leave, and to stay.  I'd say how much we will miss you in lonely Joy Park, how cold it'd get.  I'd tell you every time I look at your brother's face. I see you in him.  I'd write you just to show I cared, but the words just stop comin' ....
